SUMMARY

The reproduction of the garlic culture (Allium sativum) is asexual or vegetative type, through bulbils; Recently, new or emerging diseases caused by bacteria have been found both, in the field and in storage, making difficult to keep bulbils in sanitary conditions; about 90% of plants grown worldwide are propagated by seeds, which can transmit bacteria, virus and fungi that can infect next generation. The objective of this research was to formulate a coating that helps maintain the viability of the garlic seed at room temperature or in refrigeration. The Tingüindin variety was used eight months after harvest. The bulbils were superficially disinfected. 9 coating treatments were performed: 1 (Grenetin 8%+Kasugamycin), 2 (Caseinate

8%+Kasugamycin), (Chitosan 0.5%+Kasugamycin), 4 (Chitosan 0.5%), 5 (Control with water), 6 ( Witness without any treatment), 7 (Chitosan 1.4%), 8 (Caseinate 8%), 9 (Grenetina 8%). The last two were kept in refrigeration (4°C) and the others at room temperature (21-25 °C). The moisture content was measured. With an experimental design of complete blocks at random with three repetitions. Multiple comparisons of means were made (Tukey P ≤ 0.05). In treatments 1 to 7, greater dehydration was observed (15.4%) at 35 days after treatment (ddt) and (38.3%) at 74ddt. Treatments 8 and 9 in refrigeration were not dehydrated, which helped maintain the viability of the seed, vigor, appearance and weight.
